Liverpool have been incessantly linked with RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita in recent weeks as Jurgen Klopp looks to build a team truly capable of challenging for the title.
The 22-year-old has been identified by the club as their primary transfer target following his brilliant season for the controversial German side. Already this month, the Reds have seen three bids rejected for the midfielder and their pursuit of Keita now appears to finally be over.
Sky Sports News revealed on Sunday afternoon that a senior source at Leipzig has told them the Guinea native will unequivocally not be sold this summer.
Sky sources understand Liverpool have had three bids rejected for the midfielder…
A senior official at RB Leipzig has told Sky Sports News that Naby Keita will not be sold in this transfer window.
With Keita staying put, Klopp and Liverpool will now look to alternative candidates to bring in before the window closes in September. The Merseyside club have already failed in their recruiting of Virgil Van Dijk since the end of the season but have sealed the arrival of Mohammed Salah and Chelsea outcast Dominic Solanke.
As their rivals continue to spend outrageous sums ahead of what is sure to be a massively competitive upcoming season, Liverpool will have to turn their fortunes around soon just to keep pace with those around them. Whether it be for a centre-back or a defensive midfielder, fans will doubtless be hoping the club can get a deal over the line sooner rather than later.
