Manchester United fans have been left disappointed by news that Monaco right-back Fabinho looks destined not to join the club in this transfer window.
That’s according to Bryan Swanson, chief news reporter at Sky Sports News HQ.
AS Monaco – strong position in window? Senior club figure tells us: ‘Fabinho likely to stay we need him in Champions League squad.’ #SSNHQ

Fabinho, 22, has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford for the majority of the summer, and has impressed in his early season performances for the French club.
The Brazilian capped a fine display against French champions Paris Saint-Germain last night by converting the penalty that put his side two goals to the good before the half-time break.
The player also has a remarkable statistic to his name. There are not many goal scoring right-backs in the world..
11 – Fabinho is Monaco’ top goal scorer in all comps since 2015/16 (11 goals – all on penalty kicks). Sniper.

Make that twelve after last night’s cool finish.
Elsewhere, The Independent via L’Equipe claim that Chelsea are making an eleventh hour move to hijack United’s bid to sign Fabinho.
However, like Swanson’s claim Monaco remain confident of keeping their star asset as they can provide the player with Champions League football – something both Chelsea and Manchester United cannot.
Chelsea remain busy regardless in their efforts to sign Fiorentina’s Marcos Alonso and Inter Milan’s Marcelo Brozovic so Fabinho may not be a prime target.
As for United, Antonio Valencia’s early season performances have been steady and Jose Mourinho will have a reliable player in that position even if he fails to persuade the French side to part with the £25 million-rated defender.
Finally, Bleacher Report’s Dean Jones has summarised all the transfer news of the day, including the Red Devils efforts to sign Fabinho and a potential exit for Marcos Rojo.
#MUFC and Jose Mourinho want Monaco’s Fabinho, but they’ll have to trim the squad first, reports @DeanJonesBRhttps://t.co/wJN0D6SaZ4
