Sky Sports football analysts Phil Thompson and Charlie Nicholas have selected their Arsenal-Liverpool combined XIs ahead of Sunday’s clash between the two rivals, that will be shown live by the British broadcaster.
Thompson was a long-time assistant manager and former player at Liverpool. He put seven of Jurgen Klopp’s players into his side but did go for Arsenal’s Petr Cech in goals.
In fact, Cech was one of five players selected by both Thompson and former Arsenal player Nicholas.
Alongside the Czech Republic goalkeeper on both line-ups are Laurent Koscielny, Sadio Mane, Philippe Coutinho and Alexis Sanchez.
Interestingly, Thompson put Aaron Ramsey in his side, but Arsenal legend Nicholas didn’t find room for the Welsh international in his side.
Nicholas also put in two Liverpool players who didn’t make Thommo’s XI. Those were Mamadou Sakho and Nathaniel Clyne. The Anfield legend had two different Liverpool players in these positions, namely, Dejan Lovren and Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Nicholas also had a seven-four split – however, he had more Arsenal players than Liverpool in his selection.
Here are the two line-ups in full:
This is an interesting exercise and just show how many top players will be on show when Arsene Wener brings his side to Anfield as the Gunners look to get back on track after losing to Stoke City last time out.
Liverpool go into this game with a lot of momentum after securing a spot in the Champions League group stage mid-week, beating Hoffenheim 4-2.
They will look to remain unbeaten this season heading into the international break.
