Rejoice, English football fans. Tim Sherwood has a new job for himself.

The former Tottenham and Aston Villa manager has been appointed as director of football for League One side Swindon Town above current head coach Luke Williams, who has been in the role at the County Ground since March of this year.

Having been a manager in his previous two roles, this is somewhat uncharted territory for the 47-year-old, but Swindon chairman Lee Power is nonetheless delighted that Sherwood has taken the role.

He told BBC Wiltshire:

“We’re still a bit shocked that we’ve been able to persuade him to take the role.

“We’re very mindful not to use the title ‘manager’ – it’s not a demotion for Luke Williams. He’ll be head coach still. Tim will be running training, alongside.”

Sherwood himself has also been speaking about his new role, adding that he was looking forward to meeting the players and imparting his knowledge onto them:

“I like this club. I’ve got a soft spot for it. This is a good opportunity for me to get back onto the training field.

“I started this morning. I’ll be in the dressing room, I’ll be talking to the boys and giving them some words of wisdom.

“We need everyone on side, to come back through those gates, to help the boys out.”

Swindon currently find themselves in the relegation zone in League One, with sixteen points from as many matches. The finished midtable in the league last season, but were hoping to kick on and challenge for a playoff place in this campaign.
