Shaw’s Days At Manchester United Are Numbered If These Mourinho Comments Are Anything To Go By

Having failed to feature with any great deal of consistency under Jose Mourinho since the beginning of this season it perhaps comes as no surprise that the new Manchester United boss is less than full of praise for Luke Shaw.

Following on from United’s 0-0 draw with West Brom on Saturday the Portuguese didn’t bite his tongue in the slightest when quizzed over his rarely used full-back.

“Luke Shaw? It was difficult for him to be on the bench because I cannot compare him with Ashley Young, with Darmian, with Blind,” Mourinho told The Telegraph.

“The way he trains, the way he commits, the focus, the ambition, I cannot compare. He’s a long way behind.”

With time on his side, Shaw, 21, should now be looking to the next chapter in his career with these comments almost certainly coming from a manager who has seen enough.

Mourinho very rarely, if ever, changes his mind once it’s been made up about a player. And although Shaw may be ‘a long way behind’ rather than completely out of the 54-year-old’s thoughts, finding yourself down the pecking order from defenders like Young and Darmian does not bode well for the future.

With rumours of a potential move south to Tottenham doing the rounds, this summer seems the perfect time for Shaw to reignite what may still prove to be a successful career.
