If Robbie Keane wants to finish his career in the League of Ireland, Shamrock Rovers would welcome him with open arms.

Since leaving LA Galaxy last year, former Republic of Ireland captain Robbie Keane has been linked with many clubs, yet the 36-year-old is still unattached and continues to train with Shamrock Rovers to keep himself in shape.

According to The Sun if  the Republic’s all time goal scorer wants to join the Hoops, all he has to do is ask, says former international teammate and Shamrock Rovers sporting director, Stephen McPhail.

“We’ve never had the conversation, you might laugh but we’ve never spoken about it. If he’s going to settle in this country and he wants to play football, I hope he’d think of being with us.

“It’s down to Robbie. If he came and he said, ‘Nothing has come up,’ then of course. This club would love to have someone like him around the place.”

Keane has had approaches from Asia, Australia, America and was also linked with a move to Preston where he would have joined an Irish contingent that includes Greg Cunningham, Aiden McGeady, Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan.

However, the former Liverpool and Tottenham striker is taking his time about his next move, which at 36 will probably be his last.

The Hoops fans will be hoping the Irish legend will sort out his future soon and line out in the famous green and white jersey and follow in the footsteps of Stephen McPhail and Damien Duff who wound down their careers in Tallaght, and both of whom remain involved in the club.
