Marcus Rashford has been an absolute sensation since breaking into the Manchester United first team in recent months.
Before the turn of the year, very few Manchester United fans could even tell you who Marcus Rashford was. A few months later and the 18-year-old is being talked about as the greatest prospect to have risen out of the club’s academy since Paul Pogba. Unlike Pogba however, United fans are hoping there will be a happy ending to this story.
Last night, Rashford once again showed just how dangerous he can be as an attacking threat as he scored what was perhaps his best goal since breaking into the Manchester United first team.
Speaking after the game, Louis van Gaal sung Rashford’s praises as he complimented, not only the player’s ability but a level of maturity that is beyond his years.
“He’s very focused on his work and that I admire when you are so young and there is so much attention now. He is scoring so many important goals but he can cope with that attention and focus. When you have criticism he can cope with criticism also, he can say: ‘Yes, manager, you are right and I have to do that.’ I think it’s fantastic because not a lot of players can see their self-image in a match.
“It was a great goal. I was behind him on the bench and saw the view, the gap and the corner and I shouted: ‘Shoot!’ but to do it is much more difficult. It was a great goal and a great dribble. I say he always needs to dribble and shoot, he has that quality.”
Given the fact that the forward is still just 18 years of age and considering the pride that the club takes in bringing through youth, it seems certain that United will take great care in nurturing Rashford’s talent in the coming years.
However, a rather absurd story is coming out of Italy today as Football Italia have claimed that United would be willing to do a swap deal that would see Rashford going to Fiorentina in exchange for Federico Bernardeschi.

Bernardeschi is a 22-year-old winger who has already been capped for the Italian national side and would certainly mark a solid acquisition for United. However, given the manner in which Rashford is being spoken about, it seems absolutely absurd that the Red Devils would even consider a swap deal for the young striker.
