What a year it’s been for former Cork City striker Sean Maguire. After firing the Turner’s Cross outfit into a commanding lead in the League of Ireland, the Kilkenny native earned his move to England as Championship outfit Preston North End came calling.
His second stint in England has gotten off to a perfect start, as he nailed down a starting berth in the side, and is immediately a fan favourite at Deepdale.
To add to all of that, he has made his Ireland debut with an appearance in a competitive game, a rarity in the Martin O’Neill era. With Jonathan Walters possibly missing out on next month’s World Cup play-off, and Shane Long struggling for form, Maguire could have a bigger role in next month’s international window.
He’s certainly doing his part to convince the Irish management that he belongs in the international set-up.
Today, Preston are playing away to Fulham in Craven Cottage, and the Irishman helped them to a 0-2 half-time lead, chipping in with an assist and a goal of his own.
18' Maguire does well down the left and pulls it back for Hugill who fires into the bottom corner from the six yard box! #ANSWA

Although the assist was well worked, we’re not too sure how much Maguire knew about the goal, but he has been credited with the score.

Unfortunately, he went off injured before half-time. For the sake of Ireland, let’s hope it’s not too serious!
