Former Cork City star Sean Maguire broke his Championship duck for Preston North End in typical fashion on Saturday.
The 23-year-old has been impressing Preston fans with his work rate since moving from Leeside in the summer, and they have now seen exactly what he can do in front of goal with the type of header that City fans became accustomed to during his 18 months at Turner’s Cross.
Preston were in action against Barnsley at Deepdale looking to continue their solid start to the season, and broke the deadlock 23 minutes into proceedings when Maguire rose to meet a Tom Barkhuizen cross to head past Adam Davies in the visiting goal.
Alex Neal’s joy was short-lived, however, as Barnsley equalised just two minutes later courtesy of a strike from Brad Potts that sent that sides at half time. The deadlock wasn’t broken in the second half and the score remained at 1-1 to give each side a point, but a good day for Maguire got even better when he was named man of the match for his overall performance.
