Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor arrived onto the field to join in Cork City’s celebrations today…
Cork City have secured the double in the most dramatic circumstances in the Aviva Stadium, after seeing off Dundalk following a penalty shootout.
John Caulfield’s side capped off a remarkable season, in which they secured a league title after some hammer blows throughout the year.
The loss of captain Johnny Dunleavy to a season-ending injury was made worse by the departure of Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor to Preston North End.
However, Maguire and O’Connor remained keen observers of the Turner’s Cross outfit throughout the year, and were in the Aviva Stadium today to roar on their former side.
After the heroics of Mark McNulty and Kieran Sadlier in the penalty shootout, Maguire and O’Connor joined the on-field celebrations.

Maguire is facing three months on the sidelines, as he must undergo surgery on his hamstring. This means that he will miss out on Ireland’s World Cup play-off with Denmark next week, but his rise so far at Preston would suggest that he will be back with a bang in 2018.
