Despite many stars being in France for Euro 2016, the transfer window is still open for business – and Manchester United fans have reacted to a tweet from one of their own with extreme giddiness.
Ahead of Germany’s massive group stage match against Northern Ireland in Paris on Tuesday, midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger posted what, on the face of it, appears to be a highly innocuous picture of him training with international colleague Leroy Sané.

However, as Sané has been been previously linked with Manchester United (at this stage, who hasn’t?), many fans of the Old Trafford club are putting two and two together and have convinced themselves that the 31 year old has been covertly trying to persuade the highly-talented youngster to join him in the Premier league next season.
A selection of Man United fans lost the run of themselves in reaction to seeing the photo:

@BSchweinsteiger if he doesn’t sign for United, you’re getting loaned to Blackpool

While the prospect of the explosive 20 year old Schalke winger joining would be enough to excite fans, the irony of the situation is that it is far more likely that neither player will be at Old Trafford next season, rather than both. Basti has been linked with a move back to the Bundesliga after a poor debut season in England, while Sané is reportedly one of Pep Guardiola’s top targets as he takes charge at local rivals Manchester City.
Of course this wouldn’t be the first time that a social media photo has led to a Man United rumour frenzy. The famous picture of David de Gea writing “see you in Manchester” on the ball of then-Barcelona midfielder Thiago Alcántara will live long in the memory.

Yet more proof that sometimes the smallest things can start the biggest stories. This, however, is almost certainly a non-starter.
