Despite Arsenal coming from three behind to claim a hard-fought point against Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Alexis Sanchez was less than pleased with the result, showing his frustrations publicly on the pitch.
The 3-3 stalemate has set Arsenal back once again in their hunt for the title and for players as talented and hungry for success it is perhaps no surprise Sanchez was less than impressed with the Gunners’ performance.
However, there could be more to this outburst than meets the eye, as the Daily Mail report the Chile international’s teammates now fear he will leave the club as wrangling over a new contract continues.
According to the aforementioned outlet, Sanchez has been offered a £180,000-a-week deal by the club but is holding out for a deal in excess of £250,000.
And as each day passes the future of the potent attacker becomes more and more uncertain, as with his current contract set to expire in 2018 the club need to decide quickly whether to cash in this coming summer or front up the wages he is looking for.
Viewing matters from the outside in, one can’t help but feel the club should give him exactly what he wants. He is one of the Gunners’ truly world-class talents and letting him go, even for a hefty fee this summer, would be a backwards step by the Emirates club.
Providing 13 goals and laying on eight assists so far in the Premier League this season the 28-year-old’s statistics speak for themselves.
While the Chilean’s latest tantrum, and now these reports, don’t bode well for Sanchez’s future in north London, the club should be doing all they can to tie him down.
