Rumours Circulate That Manchester United Flop Angel Di Maria Wants Premier League Return

After signing for Manchester United in the summer of 2014 for what was at the time an English transfer record fee, Angel Di Maria packed his bags and headed to France less than 12 months later.

The Argentine’s time at Old Trafford was an unprecedented flop. No one had ever spent that much money on a player only to cash in on him and take a massive loss just one season later.

No one really knows exactly how things went so drastically wrong that Louis van Gaal elected to get rid of the former Real Madrid man after less than a year at the club. However, despite his dismal experience in the Premier League, rumours began to circulate on Monday morning that Di Maria could be set for a return to England.

According to the reports, despite the fact that the Argentine is now regarded as PSG’s star man this campaign, Di Maria is apparently unhappy under new manager Unai Emery, and wants to prove that he is capable of shining in the Premier League.

The rumours also state that Antonio Conte is hugely keen on the PSG man and will do his utmost to sign him with Chelsea. However, with the Blues having serious defensive issues, it is likely that fans would much rather see their side prioritising defensive signings. Given the fact that the club already have Hazard, Pedro, Moses and Willian operating on the wings, the need for Di Maria does seem a little bit odd.

Although the story has been circulated in several publications including Talksport and Goal, a little digging has revealed that the rumour originated in Spanish publication Don Balon, a website that has a very poor reputation when it comes to reliable transfer gossip.

Taking that into account, although there is chance that Di Maria is unhappy with Unai Emery’s management at PSG, the odds of him making a return to the Premier League seem very slim at present.
