The League of Ireland returns this week for the 2018 season, and proceedings start with a bang in what will be a hotly-contested Dublin derby.
Bohemians host Shamrock Rovers at Dalymount Park in what is sure to be an engrossing start to the new season, as matches between these two big rivals almost always are. Stephen Bradley’s hoops are looking to finally break the Cork City-Dundalk duopoly, while Keith Long’s Bohs are aiming to improve on last season’s impressive fifth-place finish in the table.
To kick the season off, RTÉ Sport will be broadcasting the match on Friday night, and in anticipation of the fixture and the season as a whole they have unveiled a fantastic advertisement showcasing some of the best that the league had to offer in the 2017 season.

In a hugely intriguing opening weekend, champions Cork City travel to Richmond Park to take on St. Patrick’s Athletic, wherein they will still undoubtedly be full of confidence form their highly impressive 4-2 victory over Dundalk in Sunday’s President’s Cup fixture.
Last year’s runners-up, meanwhile, welcome Bray Wanderers to Oriel Park in a division that has been reduced from twelve to ten for 2018.
In addition to the return of live football, next Monday sees RTÉ’s Premier Division highlights programme Soccer Republic back on television screens from 7pm.
