Roy Keane Refers To Famous ‘Lads, It’s Tottenham’ Quote In Lauding Pochettino’s Spurs

Roy Keane has always been rather dismissive of Tottenham Hotspurs when compared to the top clubs in the Premier League. However, speaking after their 1-1 draw against Real Madrid on Tuesday night, the former Manchester United star admitted that the club has completely reinvented itself.

Promoting his second autobiography ‘The Second Half’ in 2014, Keane famously explained how tuned in Sir Alex Ferguson was with his squad by referencing a pre-match team-talk ahead of a clash with Spurs.

“I thought I knew what the group might need, that we didn’t need a big team talk,” said Keane. “It was Tottenham at home. I thought please don’t go on about Tottenham, we all know what Tottenham is about, they are nice and tidy but we’ll fucking do them. He came in and said: ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’, and that was it. Brilliant.”

However, speaking about the current Spurs outfit on Tuesday evening, Keane admitted that that statement no longer rings true.

There was a saying – ‘Lads, it’s Tottenham’. Those days are over, they look like they belong with the top teams in Europe.”

Them days are over. I think Spurs now look rock solid, a really good team full of energy. We saw the game against Real Madrid, they were very brave, showed a lot of courage, looked like they belong with all the top teams in Europe now, and I think their manager and players deserve great credit – this is a really good Tottenham team now

They’ll be a threat. I still think they’re short of one or two players to go on and win the trophy [Champions League], but getting into the knockout stages and the quarter finals? They’ve got a great chance.
