With Rooney Set To Leave, Odds Have Been Released For Man Utd’s Next Club Captain

Over the past few days, countless reports have suggested that Wayne Rooney is set to leave Manchester United by the end of next week in order to complete a transfer to China.

Although both the BBC and Sky Sports have stated that Rooney will likely turn down that offer in favour of a summer move to either Everton or the MLS, what now seems certain is that the English international will leave Old Trafford before next season kicks off.

Rooney has been omitted from United’s match day squad for their Europa League tie with St Etienne this evening and, with the Englishman also reportedly set to miss the cup final with Southampton at the weekend, many have begun to wonder what a post-Rooney United will look like.

The 31-year-old has been the Red Devils club captain since Nemanja Vidic left the club in 2014 and now, with his Old Trafford career likely to be at an end, the bookies have released some interesting odds on who is likely to replace the forward as the club’s next permanent captain.

Although many might suggest that David de Gea would be the logical choice given the length of time he has been with the club and his clear ability to lead from the back, the odds suggest that Paul Pogba is in fact the favourite to be United’s next on-field commander.
