Rio Ferdinand Reveals What Paul Pogba Told Him As He Was Leaving Manchester United

Rio Ferdinand has revealed Paul Pogba told him he was departing Manchester United to become ‘the best player in the world’.

Four years on, and Pogba is set to become the world’s most expensive player in a £110m return to his former club from Juventus. He’s certainly on his way.

Ferdinand was speaking with Metro about Pogba’s meteoric rise.

‘When he left I said ‘why you leaving? To Juventus? Why you leaving?’

‘And he said ‘ I want to be the best player in the world’. They were his words to me and he’s on the right track. He’s not there yet.’

Ferdinand joined Manchester United in 2002 and went on to become a club legend.

‘The kids at the moment in a Juventus shirt produces magic moments, moments of high class, game-changing moments. For £100m you want someone who can develop into someone who can dictate a game in his position, can win games on his own and drag his team over the line.

‘Can he develop into that player? I think, yes, he’s got the potential to do that. Is he worth 100m? I don’t know. Is anyone worth 20m?’

If he goes there for £100m and in ten years wins five titles and £100m worth of shirts, you’ll say ‘well done, good business’.

Pogba has enjoyed an incredible time with Juventus in Turin, and has attracted attention from the very best in Europe.

Zinedine Zidane and Real Madrid are said to be enormous admirers, but Florentino Perez apparently refuses to match Manchester United’s offer of £110m for the Frenchman.

However, on the international stage, Pogba has left much to be desired after his sub-standard performances for France during the European Championships this summer.

Such displays led to many doubting his astronomical value albeit the fact remaining that Pogba was playing in a very different position for his country compared to how Juventus utilise him.

It is not unjust for fans to expect a player worth over £100m to play in multiple positions, but as Ferdinand said, if he wins a large catalogue of titles in his second spell as a Red Devil, no one will mention the figures involved in this infamous transfer.
