Watch: Richie Towell Reminds Irish Fans Exactly What He Is Capable Of

Towell

Richie Towell scored his first goal for new club Rotherham United in dramatic circumstances on Saturday afternoon.

The former Dundalk midfielder, a deadline day loan signing from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion, is looking to rebuild his career in League One and he made the best possible start to earning the love of his new side’s supporters with a last-minute winner against Bury at the New York Stadium.

Towell, having made his League One debut in the dying minutes against Portsmouth last weekend, came on as a first-half replacement for Shaun Cummings and had the final say in proceedings by sealing a 3-2 win for Paul Warne’s side.

Towell had stressed the need to get back playing competitive football in a recent interview with the official Rotherham website, having been told he could go on loan to get more first team-experience by Brighton manager Chris Hughton.

“I just need to get back playing, obviously I was a bit unfortunate, I got injured at the start of pre-season and last year I was out for four months, so that wasn’t the best start, but I haven’t had any problems since then, touch wood, and I feel good and fit so I just need to come here, show what I’m all about and get into the team here first and foremost, and then kick on.”
