Ireland came away from Antalya tonight after a 1-0 loss, but there were positives for Martin O’Neill’s men.
Declan Rice made his debut in green, and the promising West Ham teenager certainly lived up to the hype, with a commanding display.
In defence during the first half, Rice seemed to have a reliable understanding with Shane Duffy and Kevin Long, looking assured on the ball and cutting out the opposition attack on several occasions.
After the break, he was pushed into midfield, and was equally impressive driving forward in possession and playing some brilliant passes.
Speaking after the game, Richard Dunne was extremely impressed, even making a Roy Keane comparison.

Dunne wasn’t the only one impressed by Rice, as he came in for numerous plaudits. The young Hammers star is likely to have a long career in green, and he was delighted with the man of the match award in his opening game.
Long may it continue!
