Pep Guardiola’s Man City revolution is set to take shape over the coming months, but he’ll face some stiff competition – including one of his former clubs – if he is to land a major target.
The Mirror are today reporting that Dortmund midfielder İlkay Gündoğan has emerged as a player that incoming Man City manager Guardiola wants to bring with him from the Bundesliga, but Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona are also keeping tabs on the situation.
Gündoğan, 25, is set to leave the German side after his rejection of a new contract offer – with just one year remaining on his current deal, Dortmund are likely to want to cash in on the two-time Bundesliga winner.
As such. the player would appear to have his pick of some of Europe’s top clubs.
Man City are reported to have stormed ahead of Premier League rivals Arsenal and Liverpool due to Gündoğan’s desire to work with Guardiola – which would appear to have trumped his desire to work once again under old mnager Jürgen Klopp at Anfield.
While Man City are the current favourites to land the player, the chances of them hoping to a arrange a cut-price deal with Dortmund are likely to be scuppered by the mere presence of Real and Barcelona – both of whom would be quite prepared to wait for him to see out his contract before signing him on a free.
