A report in The Telegraph on Thursday afternoon, says that Chelsea attacker Diego Costa has told teammates that he is about to leave the London club.
This may come as a bit of a surprise, given today’s news that Manchester United took a step closer to signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton – a player who has been linked with Chelsea for quite a while now.
However, it is well known that Costa doesn’t see eye-to-eye with Blues boss Antonio Conte and, according to The Telegraph’s report, the fiery Brazilian-born Spanish international has said his goodbye to his soon to be former teammates.
From the report:
“His decision to tell Costa that he is no longer part of his plans by text message looks increasingly ill-advised and has complicated Chelsea’s transfer plans.
With Atletico set to make their opening bid to re-sign Costa, the Spain international has got in touch with a number of his Chelsea team-mates to tell them he expects to return to his former club and is unsure whether he will be back at Chelsea for pre-season training which starts next Monday.”
This news will intensify speculation that Conte will plan to make a late bid for Everton’s Lukaku – but it looks like he will have to move fast to get his man. With pre-season training due to commence in the coming days, Chelsea will look to get their squad settled – as the beginning of the new Premier League season is fast approaching.
