Real Madrid Look To New Target As They Drop Out Of The Race For Paul Pogba

Reports on Saturday suggested that Real Madrid had officially entered the hunt for Paul Pogba and would go toe-to-toe with Manchester United for the Frenchman’s signature.

Yesterday, however, Sky Sports contradicted those claims and reported that Los Blancos – unable to keep up with United’s spending power – had ruled out a move for the Juve midfilder.

They have also now revealed that Zinedine Zidane’s side have identified Andre Gomes of Valencia as the next best option.

“Gomes is expected to become the subject of a £42m (€50m) transfer bid from Real after the conclusion of Euro 2016.”

Earlier in the summer window, United themselves were heavily linked with Gomes. There was also reports of a Chelsea bid being rejected.

Gomes, 22, bagged two goals and four assists last season, impressing many with his powerful runs from deep. Like Pogba, he has excellent potential and at such a young age, has plenty of time to prove it.

For United, it’s another positive update as they now look in pole position to secure the incredible return of the man they let go for almost nothing, just four years ago.
