Quiz: Can You Name Ireland’s Starting XI From Their First Ever Clash With Serbia In 2008?

International Friendly 24/5/2008 Republic of Ireland vs Serbia Ireland's Andy Keogh and Marjan Markovic and Antonio Rukavina of Serbia

Ireland take on Serbia on Tuesday night with qualification for the World Cup next year very much in the balance.

The dispiriting 1-1 draw in Georgia on Saturday, combined with victories for Serbia and Wales, has left Martin O’Neill’s side with plenty of work to do in order to get out of this group – beginning at the Aviva.

To return to the top of the group Ireland will have to do something they have never done against Serbia, emerge from the match with a victory. The division of Yugoslavia at the beginning of the century means that Ireland have only faced Serbia in the entity they now are four times, with three of them ending in a draw (the 2-2 draw in Belgrade last September was the first time they had met in a competitive fixture).

The first such occasion took place in May 2008, in which a young Giovanni Trapattoni took charge of the Boys in Green for the very first time. Substitute Andy Keogh struck late to rescue a draw in said friendly at Croke Park, cancelling out Marko Mantellic’s 75-minute opener.

The Trap era began that evening, but can you name the starting eleven from that encounter? Take the quiz below and find out.
