Chelsea will be looking to complete the Premier League and FA Cup double on Saturday in Antonio Conte’s first season at the club, thereby emulating compatriot Carlo Ancelotti’s first year in 2010.
Arsenal, meanwhile, will have their eyes on the trophy for very different reasons, as they look bag some silverware to make up for missing out on a place in the Champions League for the first time in nearly two decades.
These two sides have met each other regularly in the FA Cup throughout the years (which is par for the course for two of the competition’s most successful sides), but they have not met each other in the final since 2002.
On that occasion in Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium, it was the Gunners looking to win the cup to complete a double, as well as alleviating some of the pain caused by losing to Liverpool via two late Michael Owen goals in the showpiece twelve months earlier.
And win they duly did, as Arsene Wenger got the better of Claudio Ranieri on that May afternoon with a 2-0 victory.
