Quique Sanchez Flores’ Comments Leave No Clues As To Martin O’Neill’s Future

Martin O'Neill

With Martin O’Neill’s future as Ireland manager still up in the air due to links with the vacant Stoke City job, it appears that he is now a back-up plan for the Potters, according to reports.

It is believed that the job has been offered to current Espanyol boss Quique Sanchez Flores, who has to make up his mind quickly.

Last night, the La Liga outfit were involved in Copa Del Rey action, and after the game, Sanchez Flores was questioned as to the reports linking him to the Bet365 Stadium. However, the 52-year-old avoided a direct answer, which only fuels speculation.

“I do not want to talk about me in such a big day for the club (Espanyol qualified for quarters of Cup)… you know I have been frustrated sometimes. But today is a happy day.”

This all means that we’re likely to spend another day at least pondering if O’Neill, and indeed Roy Keane, will stay on at the helm of the Ireland team, or if he’ll depart for the Premier League outfit.
