PSG Ready To Splash Out Over Quarter Of A Billion On Package For Ronaldo [Sunday Times]

PSG are not ready to give up their pursuit of a man Real Madrid president Florentino Perez thinks is worth €1 billion – Cristiano Ronaldo.

Perez knows no-one would be willing to fork out this much but PSG may just front up a quarter of that sum as an overall package, both to lure Ronaldo to the French capital and to keep the hierarchy at the Bernabeu pleased.

The transfer fee involved would be an eye-watering £109.2 million, nearly £22m more than the £87.3m PSG offered during the summer in order to tempt Real to budge, according to The Sunday Times.

If this deal was to come to fruition, not only would it make Ronaldo the most expensive footballer in the world – again – but it would also tip the £100 million mark for the first time in the history of professional football.

The brash spending doesn’t stop there, though. Ronaldo is currently on ‘a basic salary of over £15m a year after tax’, according to the aforementioned publicationmaking him one of the highest paid footballers as it is but PSG may be willing to improve this even further by taking the entire package beyond the £250 million mark.

There are few teams in the world with this sort of financial muscle must but one glaring opponent in PSG’s pursuit of their man could be Manchester United, who Ronaldo still dreams of playing for, according to suggestions from Spanish football expert Guillem Balague this week.

At this point in his career, one would imagine Ronaldo holds almost total control of where his destiny lies such is the FIFA World Player of the Year’s prestige, so despite PSG’s temptations, Ronaldo may yet pluck for a return to the Premier League.

There is, however, a long way to go between now and the summer for the Portugal international to make his decision on whether to stay or go.
