Preston North End centre-half Kevin O’Connor made the headlines this week after winning the lottery. The former Cork City star won the National Lottery’s Christmas Millionaire Raffle, which capped off quite the 12 months for the 22-year-old who got his move to England last summer.
O’Connor’s uncle and godfather Peadar Murphy bought him the winning ticket just before Christmas at Flanagan’s Supermarket in Wexford where the 22-year-old validated it on Tuesday before collecting his cheque.
As he attempts to break into the Preston side with regularity, O’Connor is a member of the large Irish contingent at the Championship club, which includes Sean Maguire, Greg Cunningham, Andy Boyle, Daryl Horgan, Alan Browne and Eoin Doyle.
Of course, with such a high profile character winning the lottery, it was always going to attract attention, and according to reports, the Preston fans have come out with some brilliant chants to mark the occasion!

Preston overcame Wycombe in the third round of the FA Cup, running out comfortable 5-1 winners. Alan Browne bagged a brace, as did Josh Harrop and a goal from Daryl Horgan capped off a fruitful afternoon’s work for PNE to see them into the hat for the next round.
