Alexi Sanchez has yet to sign a new contract with Arsenal.
For the past number of months, Arsenal fans have feared Juventus’ interest in Alexis Sanchez. However the main threat for his signature may come much closer to home.
Although the Chilean’s contract is not set to expire until the summer of 2018, the Gunners are anxious to tie Sanchez down on a long term deal.
However, despite the fact that contract negotiations have yet to formally begin, reports of Sanchez’s demand for a substantial pay hike and the inclusion of a minimum release clause have already circulated in the press.
This has raised the interest of Manchester City according to The Express, who claim that Pep Guardiola’s team will make a move for Sanchez, should his contract negotiations begin to falter.
What’s more, they believe City could make an approach in January, should Arsenal fail to convince their star attacker to remain at the club.
Indeed, the 27 year-old will also be demanding assurances that the Gunners can challenge for major honours in the coming years.
While Arsenal fans remain confident that Sanchez will remain at the Emirates Stadium, the uncertainty surrounding the future of Arsene Wenger and the possible need to off load some squad players after spending £90 million, could work against the Gunners.
