The Premier League have announced their nominees for Premier League Player of the Season – and it looks set to be a two-way battle.
As expected, Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne and recently-crowned PFA and FWA Player of the Year Mohamed Salah are included in the list of six names – and it seems likely that those two will be the standout candidates to take home the award.
De Bruyne’s Man City teammate Raheem Sterling is also included, after a season in which the England forward has scored a career-best 18 league goals and played a key role in the team’s title success.
Tottenham striker Harry Kane, who has scored 20+ for the third year running, is named. The England international looks unlikely now to claim the golden boot but his has still been another stellar campaign from the Spurs man.
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, recently crowned as the club’s player of the season yet again, is named after another fantastic campaign from the Spaniard, keeping the most clean sheets of any goalkeeper in the league.
The final name is a slight surprise, though no less deserving. Burnley defender James Tarkowski has been included, after a campaign in which the Clarest have defied the odds to secure a Europa League spot for next season. Tarkowski has ably filled the gap left by Michael Keane’s summer departure to Everton, and looks likely to be named in England’s World Cup squad having made his debut for Gareth Southgate’s side this season.
And the nominations for @EASPORTSFIFA Player of the Season are…
