A number of Premier League clubs are set to see disruption to their squads in the next week or so, as the African Nations Cup 2017 begins in Gabon.
Some, such as Liverpool’s Joel Matip and Bournemouth striker Benik Afobe, have decided not to participate, while Nigeria’s failure to qualify has meant that the likes of Alex Iwobi, John Obi Mikel, Victor Moses, Odion Ighalo, Kelechi Iheanacho and new Leicester City signing Wilfried Ndidi will remain with their clubs.
In all, a total of 20 players will be departing temporarily, with Stoke and Sunderland the most affected as both Premier League clubs have three players involved each.
The competition runs from January 14th to February 5th, although obviously some players involved will return earlier as their countries are eliminated.
