Everton boss Ronald Koeman is keen on strengthening his squad ahead of next season, with the Toffees looking to get back competing at the top of the Premier League.
After a disastrous 2015/2016 campaign, the club parted ways with manager Roberto Martinez. However, if they are to get back to where they feel that they belong, Everton will need to splash the cash this summer.
According to Portuguese publication Record, Everton are on the verge of signing William Carvalho.
The Sporting Lisbon midfielder was integral to Portugal’s successful Euro 2016 campaign, and is believed to have a release clause of £35 million.
Everton are extremely interested in the 24 year-old, but are unsure if they are prepared to go over £20 million to sign the defensive midfielder.
This would be a major coup for Everton, and Carvalho could slot seamlessly into the Goodison Park midfield next season.
With James McCarthy and Ross Barkley heading up the middle of the park, the addition of a talent like Carvalho with world class potential would be huge.
The Toffees are eager to challenge in the top half of the Premier League next season, and Carvalho would be an ideal signing. He could be a cornerstone whom Koeman could build his team around.
