The Paul Pogba transfer saga has been rumbling on for months now. Fans around the world are gobbling up any tiny morsel of information they can get their hands on, and the biggest hint yet regarding the French international’s destination hasn’t come from any of the usual media outlet but from celebrity chef Bobby Chin.
Pogba and new United arrival Zlatan Ibrahimovic were spotted in Chin’s Los Angeles restaurant – the humbly-named Bobby Chin’s – enjoying a meal together. In response to a number of pictures posted on Social Media, the chef has since made the following comments on Instagram.
“I do not disturb celebrities in their free time, especially when they are with their families having dinner. However, in this given moment, a friend of mine’s son was very excited to see Ibrahimovic and I could not help myself.
“Nobody knew who they were and they dined undisturbed other than a very quick photo opp that took no more than 10 seconds.
“The magnitude of such stardom coupled with the football transfer rumours with Man United’s interest in Pogba, knowing that [Jose] Mourinho wants him and Ibrahimovic is already signed, and here they are in Los Angeles eating in a swanky restaurant TOGETHER with their families.”
He continued: “I heavily doubt they met to talk about Ronaldo, or maybe they did!
“As a Liverpool supporter, which I confessed to both of them, I’d love to see them both at Man United, it only makes the Premier League an even greater spectacle.
“Pogba didn’t say he was joining any club and I am sorry to speculate, but these two superstars were having dinner with their families together.”
The two players are known to share the services of football agent Mina Raiola, and now rumours are running wild that they’ve also shared a Kung Po chicken, half rice, half chips. It’s usually Chin’s high-end Asian cuisine that making people salivate, but now his football transfer gossip is having the same effect. He even mentions Ronaldo to whet the appetite further.
Is this what the transfer window has come to?
Jamie Oliver can whip up a cost effective family meal in 15 minutes, perhaps he’s also got the inside track on N’golo Kante’s future? If you want the latest news on Arsenal’s next marquee signing and aren’t afraid of a bit of gratuitous swearing and being showered in spittle, then Gordon Ramsey is your man. It’s a well-known fact in both food and football circles that Mary Berry was the first to know about Stanley Matthews’ controversial war-time transfer from Stoke City to Blackpool.
You’ve reached the final of Masterchef, you’ve prepared your signature venison fillet with wild garlic infuse winter veg and celeriac mash, but Gregg Wallace and John Torrode are more interested in grilling you about Gonzalo Higuain’s next destination.
We’re all desperate for the biggest and most exciting transfers every summer but some of them like Pogba’s rumble on so long it’s painful.
