PICS: Cork City’s Turner’s Cross Has Been Severely Damaged In Storm Ophelia

Cork City were hoping to announce themselves as League of Ireland champions on Monday night with John Caulfield’s men set to face Derry City in Turner’s Cross.

It was officially announced that the game was postponed on Sunday night as officials decided to take precautions as a red weather alert was issued due to the approaching hurricane Ophelia.

However, it seems that Ophelia hit Cork with a greater force than many expected as countless locations around the City have been severely damaged in the storm with City’s stadium, in particular, getting brutally affected.

Several other areas in the City and county have also been hit extremely hard by the storm with Douglas Community School losing the roof to its gym.

City’s clash with Derry was initially postponed until Tuesday evening but, given the severe damage that Turner’s Cross has endured on Monday morning and afternoon, it now seems extremely likely that the fixture will have to be pushed back once again.

City currently sit six points ahead of Dundalk in the League of Ireland table with a game in hand.
