Manchester United’s pursuit of Ivan Perisic has become that bit more complicated.
The Red Devils looked confident of getting a deal done earlier in the week as the parties edged towards a compromise deal of £45m, but Inter’s insistence that they will not be bullied into selling one of their star assets for anything less that what they value him at.
Perisic himself is apparently determined to move to the Premier League, and although the Nerazzurri aren’t completely resigned to losing the Croatian midfielder, the Telegraph and Sky Sports are reporting that the Serie A side have asked for Anthony Martial to become part of any negotiations.
Martial looked out of sorts last year, his second at Old Trafford, under Jose Mourinho and rumours of the manager not trusting him abounded for much of the season. He was heavily linked with a loan move to Sevilla in January and although Man United put a stop to that before it could grow legs, it remains to be seen if Mourinho would stop the French international going to the San Siro on similar terms for this campaign – particularly if they bring Perisic in to solve that left-wing problem.
If, however, Martial is regarded by Mourinho as a striker for this season (albeit third-choice behind Romelu Lukaku and Marcus Rashford) then he might be loath to lose Martial, especially with squad options needed for the return to the Champions League.
In any event, Man United have not given up hope of signing Perisice and remain confident of striking a deal with Inter for the 28-year-old in the coming days or weeks.
