Pep Guardiola was officially unveiled as Manchester City manager today and we fully expected the tactician to take a swipe at Jose Mourinho.
The pair did not enjoy a good relationship during their time in Spain as Barcelona and Real Madrid managers respectively and the media all gathered ahead of a new season that will see that old rivalry reignite.
However, we were all taken for a shock when Guardiola omitted Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger’s name in a list of top Premier League managers.
‘I don’t think just this year, in the past as well, there are good managers with [Jurgen] Klopp, with [Antonio] Conte, with [Claudio] Ranieri, [Jose] Mourinho, [Mauricio] Pochettino, [Ronald] Koeman – but the reason I work here is just to help the players.
Wenger is far too much of an important figure in Arsenal’s and the Premier League’s history for Guardiola to simply forget about the Frenchman, and we’re loving it.
Forget Jose Mourinho, it looks like Guardiola has begun the real rivalry in the Premier League..
