People Can’t Quite Believe Chelsea Are Linked With A Move For Peter Crouch

Reports in the last 24 hours suggest Chelsea have made inquiries regarding Stoke City’s Peter Crouch. As expected, Twitter users have since reacted with shock and a good dose of humour.

Antonio Conte has made no secret of his desire to sign a striker this January. Alvaro Morata and Michy Batshuayi have only netted twelve goals between them in the league this season and Conte has been looking at other options.

With links to players like Andy Carroll and Christian Benteke, the preference seems to be for a target man.

A move for Benteke seems unlikely and Carroll is set to miss several weeks through injury so Conte has apparently turned his attention to Crouch.

The Telegraph report Chelsea have inquired about signing the former England striker on loan. This is despite the fact he only recently penned a contract extension at Stoke and turns 37 at the end of this month.

These reports are certainly surprising, especially given Crouch’s scoring record in recent years.

He is hardly a prolific goalscorer these days and has netted just three league goals this season. In fact, he has only scored 42 goals in 189 Premier League appearances since joining Stoke in August 2011.

As the reports of this possible deal circulated, some on Twitter have reacted with dismay while others find the whole situation hilarious.

A few have even suggested that Conte has lost his mind.
