It was a day that Jurgen Klopp won’t want to remember in a hurry. The same could also be said for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. The midfielder joined the Merseyside club for a £35million fee.
To most, a 5-0 loss on your debut could be considered a nightmare start at a new club.
However, surprisingly this is an improvement to Oxlade-Chamberlain’s bow at Arsenal.
The England international joined Arsenal in 2011 from Southampton. What was his debut? Yep, you guessed it…
Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s first Arsenal appearance came from the bench against Manchester United on August 28, 2011, as the Gunners fell to the Red Devils on a scoreline of 8-2.
So technically, this is an improvement, right?
For the record, his first appearance for Southampton was a lot more positive. He came off the bench in May 2010 in the final match of the season against Southend United, which the Saints won 5-0. Perhaps he just used all of his luck too early…
