Manchester United have started the season fantastically and are the only Premier League side with a 100 per cent record heading into the second month of the campaign.
Following Alex Ferguson’s departure, the perception of almost every United side up to the beginning of the Jose Mourinho era was that the style of play was far too conservative and in no way as attack-minded as it once used to be.
That problem has, judging by this and last season’s performances, been blown out of the water, however, with the Old Trafford outfit this term having already netted ten goals in three games. And while the goals conceded tally (zero) has, of course, not been completely ignored in United’s superb opening it has certainly taken a back seat.
This impressive stat has, however, not come out of nowhere, with United holding the accolade of the meanest defence in the Premier League in 2017 so far.

As seen above, Mourinho’s troops are quite a way ahead of the chasing pack in terms of defending in 2017 and with the likes of centre-back Victor Lindelof signed this summer as well as defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic this statistic is set to only improve.
United will be aiming to keep their spotless defensive record intact this weekend as they take on eleventh-placed Stoke City away from home. So far Mark Hughes’ men have managed to score just two goals, winning, drawing and losing their respective opening three games.
