One Of Europe’s Most Prolific Strikers Offered To Chelsea For £70 Million

Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been offered to Premier League champions Chelsea for £70 million, according to Sky Sports.

The Gabon international is reportedly a target for AC Milan and Paris Saint-Germain. However, Chelsea could hijack any move if they meet Dortmund’s asking price.

Antonio Conte is keen to bolster his attack ahead of the new season. He has already missed out on number-one target Romelu Lukaku, who chose to join Manchester United. Diego Costa will also depart the club after being told he’s no longer needed.

That has left Conte with Michy Batshuayi as the only recognised striker in his squad. With teams around them strengthening in this transfer window, the Italian knows he must bring in reinforcements to mount a defence of the title.

Alvaro Morata and Christian Benteke have been mentioned as possible targets, along with Torino striker Andrea Belotti. They are three solid options but Aubameyang looks an extremely exciting proposition.

The French-born forward has scored 120 goals in 189 appearances for Dortmund in all competitions since arriving from Saint-Etienne in 2013. Last season, he netted 40 times in just 46 games. He is also prolific at international level, scoring 23 times for Gabon in 55 appearances.

Aubameyang has been linked to Liverpool and Arsenal this summer, although talk has cooled in recent weeks. A move to the Chinese Super League has also been mentioned. However, there’s now the real possibility of him moving to the Premier League.

Chelsea fans have taken to Twitter to air their thoughts at the prospect of signing Aubameyang, with the majority wanting him to join.

Former Newcastle and West Ham goalkeeper Shaka Hislop has also given his opinion. When asked who would be the better choice between Aubameyang and Morata, Hislop told ESPN FC (via The Express):

“I just feel he offers more in terms of his change in pace, in terms of how well he leads the line. I’m not sure Morata has got that full skill set.”

However, not everyone is a fan. ESPN FC commentator, and former Venezuela international, Alejandro Moreno said (via The Daily Star):

“There is a reason as to why so many people have walked away from Aubameyang.

“He seemed to be the hot property and somehow he kind of fell off the radar, PSG doesn’t want him anymore, and this team doesn’t want him anymore.

“Even a guy like Jurgen Klopp who had him at Borussia Dortmund, there is no conversation of that going on.

“So if people who have worked with him are saying ‘we don’t want him’ there’s got to be something else that we are not privy too, so I don’t want him either.”

Aubameyang has regularly competed at the highest level and is a proven goalscorer. So, whichever way you look at it, he would be a fantastic addition to the Premier League.
