There was a baffling moment of VAR madness during Manchester United’s victory over Huddersfield on Saturday evening.
Manchester United defeated Huddersfield in the FA Cup on Saturday evening after two well-taken goals from Romelu Lukaku. However, in the aftermath of United’s victory, all anyone can talk about is a phenomenally baffling moment that followed a VAR consultation before halftime.
A wonderful ball from Ashley Young found Juan Mata in the box and the Spaniard finished in a tidy manner rounding the keeper before rolling the ball into an empty net.
However, although initial replays suggested the former Chelsea man was onside, a VAR consultation ruled out the goal using a line that was clearly not straight to evaluate the decision.
Did a toddler hand draw those VAR lines?! I love the curve around his knee. Someone’s having a joke ? pic.twitter.com/c4iutnJBBt

Discussing the decision at halftime, the BT panel went to town on the ineptitude of the VAR technology repeatedly describing the entire incident and the ruling on it as ‘a shambles’.
‘The line needs to be straight, that line’s all wobbly. How can you possibly have that to work out whether it’s offside or not?’
