Watch: Michael Obafemi Stars In Ireland Under-19 Victory V Kosovo

Ireland’s under-19 side cruised to a 3-0 European Championship qualifer against Kosovo on Saturday, with Michael Obafemi in the thick of the action.

The 17-year-old has reportedly been at the centre of an international tug of war between Ireland and Nigeria in recent months, and a goal and an assist in this game showed just how much he means to to this side.

The Boys in Green kept their hopes of progression alive with the comprehensive victory, with Obafemi, Manchester United’s Lee O’Connor and Rowan Roache of Blackpool all getting on the scoresheet.

Obafemi got the ball rolling after just five minutes, the highy-rated Southampton striker turning his man before slitting the ball past the opposition goalkeeper:

One became two less than ten minutes later, with O’Connor making his mark on the game. Big things are expected of the versatile Man United youngster, and he showed just why that is the case with a terrific chipped finish to double Ireland’s lead with less than fifteen minutes on the clock.

The third and final goal came from Roache, and this time it was Obafemi turning proivder. Ireland’s pressing game forced the Kosovo defence into some sloppy play at the back, and the young forward was able to put in an inch-perfect cross to leave the goal gaping for Roache to put the tie beyond doubt.

3-0 the final score, and with four points on the board, and Tom Moha’s side will head into their final Elite Round clash with Portugal in high spirits.
