Cheik Tiote has revealed that he would be ‘open’ to a move to Arsenal as he is apparently ‘keen’ on a move away from the North East, according to the Independent.
This is not the first time that talks of a move for Tiote to the Gunners has arisen, with constant rumours that he would go to Arsenal during the summer transfer window.
Tiote is as needed at the North London club as he was in August. There is an array of attacking midfield talent at the Emirates but Tiote is the one player they lack to add more steel to their midfield.
Reported in the Shields Gazette and quoted in the Independent, Tiote said:
“It is true there were contacts for me from Arsenal and a club in Russia.
“I’d prefer to stay in England.”
The 28-year-old would give the Gunners someone who will break up play in front of defence and keep the play simple in these areas which in turn would give the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Santi Cazorla and Mesut Ozil the freedom to attack the opposition.
Arsenal are currently only six points off league leaders Chelsea but the fact that this area is still a weakness in Arsenal’s starting eleven and with new reports suggesting Tiote would be open to a move away from the Emirates it should surely set Arsene Wenger into action to bring the midfielder to Arsenal as soon as possible.
For Newcastle this would be yet another blow in a season which at the current moment doesn’t show any signs of getting any better. They are firmly rooted to the bottom of the Premier League table alongside Burnley and the loss of a key player like Tiote would only add more pressure onto the already struggling club should he leave.
