One of Stoke City’s biggest signings of all time has already broken a club record without playing a single minute for the Potters.
Xherdan Shaqiri’s £12 million arrival from Inter Milan has sparked huge interest amongst the Stoke City faithful, so much so that his name and number (22) are already the fastest selling in Stoke’s 152-year history, according to the club’s official website.
A knock on effect of the Switzerland international’s arrival is that Stoke’s ticket office are receiving an increased level of home match tickets as well as season ticket requests.
Shaqiri also becomes the fifth Champions League winner to be included in this season’s Stoke squad along with Ibrahim Afellay, Marko Arnautovic, Bojan Krkic and Marc Muniesa. Stoke now also have more European Cup winners than Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal combined.
A particularly impressive statistic for a club which has never even featured in the competition.
Despite this, Stoke’s season has not gotten off to the best of starts, losing at home to Liverpool on the first day of the season.
The Potters travel to Tottenham next to aim for their first three points of the season this weekend with their record signing in toe, who is available for selection.
