Gary Neville And Jamie Carragher Pick Their Premier League Teams Of The Season

The final Monday Night Football of the season saw and unexpected cracker, as Premier League Champions Chelsea saw off Watford 4-3 at Stamford Bridge.

As it was the final Monday game of the season, regular pundits Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher were on hand to dish out their own end of season awards.

The hottest topic up for the debate was the team of the season, with each of the two picking their own eleven. As expected, Chelsea and Tottenham dominated proceedings with the rest of the teams barely getting a look in.

In fact, but for Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne, Neville’s team is made up entirely of the two London sides. Opting for a traditional 4-4-2, the former Manchester United defender selected Thibaut Courtois in goal, Cesar Azpilicueta, David Luiz, Toby Alderweireld and Danny Rose in defence, De Bruye, PFA Player of the Season N’Golo Kanté, Dele Alli and Eden Hazard in midfield, and a front two of Harry Kane and Diego Costa.

Carragher’s team, meanwhile, is similar to Neville in some places but very different in others. The Liverpool vice-captain went for the three at the back system utilised to great effect by the Premier League’s top two, and the change in personnel is immediate with Man United’s David De Gea in goal. Azpilicueta, Alderweireld and Luiz make up the defence, Christian Eriksen, Kante, Alli and David Silva in the midfield, and a front three of Kane, Costa and Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez.

Although, on the face of it, this looks like a formation that would use Eriksen and Silva as wing backs, Carragher swears that this is not the case:

Interestingly, neither of the two picked Romelu Lukaku in their teams, despite the Everton striker leading the goalscoring charts with 24 this season.
