Watch: Net Lucky To Survive 40-Yard Thunderbastard From AS Nancy Forward

What a way to start your stint at a new club!

Slovenian forward Patrik Eler made his debut for French side AS Nancy on Friday, as the new Ligue 2 season got under way. The 26-year-old had only joined Nancy from wonderfully named Austrian club FC Wacker Innsbruck earlier this month but he will already be a fan-favourite thanks to the absolutely stunning free kick that he scored just 18 minutes into his maiden outing.

Nancy were one down to US Orléans at the Stade de la Source in Orléans when Elers placed the ball down about 40 yards from goal and took several strides back towards the halfway line. He then sprinted forward like a man possessed and unleashed a savage strike that somehow still seemed to be gathering pace when it hit the back of the net milliseconds later.

Unfortunately for Eler and Nancy, that strike was the highlight of an otherwise disappointing game, as they conceded two further goals and fell to a 3-1 defeat.
