Having been completely overlooked since Jose Mourinho took charge at Old Trafford, multiple reports on Saturday morning announced that Matteo Darmian is now set for a January move to Inter Milan.
Signed by Louis van Gaal in the summer of 2015, the former Torino right back looked to be a fantastic defensive acquisition for the Red Devils. Darmian was voted the Manchester United player of the month in August of that year after a string of impressive performances for the club.
“It’s important to know this is from the fans,” Matteo told United’s official website at the time. “I want to thank them. I am happy. I also want to thank my team-mates and everyone at the club for making me feel welcome.”
Despite his impressive start however, the 26-year-old has been incapable of replicating the form that he showed during his first few months with the club and now looks set for a Premier League exit.
The news of an impending Inter Milan move was initially reported by Italian publication Tuttosport with Gazzetto Della Sport and Football Italia also reporting on the likely transfer in the time since.
Having signed for United for a fee of £12.7 million, multiple reports now suggest that Darmian will head to Milan on a loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the season.
