Moreno: Manchester United’s Shaw ‘Made Me Smile’ During Hospital Visit

Manchester United’s Luke Shaw has now returned home following a horrendous double fracture to his right leg against PSV Eindhoven, which has effectively ended his chances of making an impact this season until well into 2016.

In what must have been a highly traumatic event for Shaw, he has handled the situation like a gentleman and the player who accidentally broke Shaw’s leg, Hector Moreno, has even revealed how the 20-year-old made him smile during a visit to the hospital the Man Utd defender was laid up in.

“What happened to Shaw was very unfortunate. I was just in shock.

“I’m glad I was able to go speak to him. I went with Phillip Cocu to the hospital,” Moreno told Dutch website Metronieuws (via the Daily Express)

“That was very difficult at the beginning, but he was very kind to me and didn’t blame me.

“He had seen the images and said it was part of football.

“That made me smile.”

On the pitch United are managing to steam ahead as Shaw begins his road to recovery. Two wins from two in the league over Liverpool and Southampton respectively have put the Old Trafford club in second place, just two behind Manchester City who United must play before the end of October in what could ultimately be a title-deciding game, if current form is anything to go by.

United have also learnt their lesson of underestimating opposition in the League Cup last season by beating Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich Town during the week.

Sunderland make the journey to Manchester this weekend with Louis van Gaal’s men having the opportunity to leapfrog City, depending on the Citizens’ result away to Tottenham.
