Manchester United fans were treated to the ware (but welcome) of a Henrikh Mkhitaryan start against Feyenoord on Thursday night.
The Armenian international began a match with his new side for only the second time since making a £27m move from Borussia Dortmund in the summer, and by all accounts he gave a fantastic performance as Man United ran out 4-0 winners to strengthen their Europa League group position.
Mkhitaryan’s lively performance in the victory can be seen in the edited video below:

Although Mkhitaryan didn’t get on the scoresheet himself, or contribute an assist, his general play was extremely effective – creating three chances, completing 85.5% of his passes (as per Whoscored) and being awarded man-of-the-match by Man United fans on Twitter.

Manager José Mourinho was also impressed with his performance, and hinted that Mhitaryan may be in line to play some part against West Ham on Sunday (though seemingly from the bench), more than two months after his last Premier League appearance:
“He just needs now to try to replicate this kind of performance in the Premier League. The Premier League is different. He needs one more step.
“Obviously now the confidence level is higher. This performance gives him the right to believe that he can play the next match.”

This certainly seems to be a step in the right direction from Mourinho with regards Mkhitaryan. The 27-year-old has endured a slow, glacial at times, beginning at Old Trafford, but his performance on Thursday could be the beginning of a corner being turned.
