Zlatan Ibrahimovic, despite Jose Mourinho claiming before Christmas that he was about to extend his stay at Manchester United, has been reluctant to put pen to paper.
He arrived at Old Trafford last summer on an initial one-year deal (with an option to add a further twelve months) after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain ran out. The Swede has scored 26 goals this season despite a very barren spell in October and November and his sub-par conversion rate.
His goals, however, have kept United, just about, in the hunt for Champions League places and losing him come June could be a disaster.
Talk of a move to Napoli for the striker was stirred up last month by his agent, Mino Raiola, admitting his client was “in love with city of Naples”. However, the Italian, who also represents Paul Pogba, has now ruled out a move to the Stadio San Paolo.
Raiola told Radio Kiss Kiss, as reported by Football Italia:
“Ibra to Napoli? Forget it.
“Zlatan won’t be in Naples [next season]. This dream won’t come true.”
Maurizio Sarri’s side were not the only potential destination for Ibra and LA Galaxy now lead the way in the hunt for his signature after his super-agent was spotted in California for talks of a move in the summer.
The 35-year-old is out of domestic action at the moment after being hit with a three-game ban for elbowing Tyrone Mings in United’s draw with Bournemouth.
