Although most Arsenal fans would love to see Gunners sign a new centre forward during the January transfer window, the club’s biggest priority will be keeping hold of Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez.
The duo have become key components in the Arsenal team, and rumours of possible interest from other clubs continues to circulate freely in the media.
However, in recent weeks it has been reported that Ozil would sign a new deal if the Arsenal hierarchy assured him that the club continued to act boldly in the transfer market. This creates a bit of a chicken and egg scenario for the Gunners.
Do they make a number of massive signings in the hope of keeping the German international at the club, or do Arsenal attempt to deliver on the promises made to Ozil after he signs a new deal?
At the moment it would appear that Ozil is is forcing Arsenal’s hand, after The Independent (via RMC Sport) reported that the player has demanded the club sign Julian Draxler in order to convince him to stay at the Emirates.
Although such a story would seem unlikely, given Ozil’s demand for transfer activity, there could be a an element of truth a play here.
Nevertheless, signing Draxler is easier said than done, as Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in the 23 year-old.
